Cooking With Toaster Ovens - Small Appliances With Big Cooking Features
In a country where the rise in population is directly proportional to the fall of available space, it is very practical to live in smaller units such as apartments. However, the hazard of living in such small places is that your appliances and furniture tend to be smaller, too. Your refrigerator is smaller, your bed is smaller, and even your toilet bowl is smaller. So, when the time comes that you need an oven for a special dinner, all you can do is scratch your head.
But that is not the case anymore. Because appliance manufacturers noticed the need for smaller yet fully functional appliances, they have produced toaster ovens. You might think, "I won't be able to bake in that thing." That is where you are wrong.A lot of moms know the need of owning an oven at home. Without one, you will not be able to make decent lasagna or bake cookies for fundraising events. With a toaster oven, cooking these things is no problem at all.
Toaster ovens come in two different types, the first one is the plain oven where you are just limited to toasting breads and grilling a sausage. The second one, however, performs functions of a normal oven and allows you to bake, broil, and grill, complete with timer and temperature controls.
Toaster oven cooking is actually very easy if you already know how to use a full sized oven. The controls are pretty much the same, allowing you to fiddle with the controls for customized settings. Most toaster ovens have controls of whether you want to turn on both the top and bottom wires or just one at a time. They also come with a convection function, making sure that the temperature is distributed equally inside the oven.
The convection control normally serves as the rotisserie control as well, allowing this type of cooking for chicken. Normally, a rod and two locks are included n the box when purchasing a toaster oven and, having tried one, I could say that the locks really do a good job in keeping the chicken secured.
Toaster ovens normally use electricity to operate, although it does not consume as much as a full sized electric oven does. The size, like mentioned, is perfect for smaller families.
There are a few drawbacks in this kind of cooking, however. Since the oven is smaller, the space between the hot rods and the food is greatly reduced. Because of that, food seems to cook quicker compared to a larger oven. It is also quite hard to fit a turkey inside, again because of the size. But that one can easily be solved by replacing it with a smaller bird such as a chicken. After all, Thanksgiving does not come around every day.
Toaster ovens are perfect for families living in smaller spaces or for anyone who cannot afford a decent full size oven yet. It performs most of the functions of the real one at a smaller size and a relatively smaller price, as well.

The Top Three Healthy Non Toxic Cookware Sets
With all of the bad publicity that Teflon and aluminum cookware has received, many of us are searching for healthy non toxic cookware. It doesn't make any sense to purchase healthy whole foods and then cook them in toxic pots and pans.
Although stainless steel cookware has been considered a safe alternative, it does have one drawback. Stainless steel cookware is made with a combination of stainless steel, chromium and nickel. None of these are harmful in small doses, but many people are allergic to nickel. If you are allergic to nickel, you should refrain from using stainless steel cookware.
Another concern that many people are not aware of is that some glazes used on crock pots have small amount of lead. The recommendation is to use terra cotta crock pots without the lead glaze.
The best cookware which is healthy and non toxic is anodized aluminum cookware. The process used in making the hard anodized aluminum seals the aluminum with an extremely hard surface coating which is non-reactive and prevents any aluminum from leaching into the food we are cooking.
The following three companies have excellent hard anodized aluminum cookware sets that are healthy and non toxic:
Calphalon is the leading manufacturer but many other companies are now producing cookware sets made with the hard anodized aluminum. Calphalon cookware cooks evenly on lower heat and is stick-resistant. They have stainless steel handles which will stay cool during stovetop cooking. The pans and lids can be used in the oven and broiler.
Cuisinart has introduced a line of non-stick cookware called Cuisinart Green Gourmet Hard Anodized Cookware. They work just like the Teflon cookware, except they don't emit any of the toxic fumes that Teflon pans do. Just like the Teflon pans, they allow you to cook with less oil and they are also energy efficient and eco-friendly. This Green Gourmet cookware set is oven and broiler safe.
KitchenAid has their own set of non-stick anodized aluminum cookware called KitchenAid Gourmet Essentials. This cookware set features stainless steel handles coated with silicone grips. The lids are break resistant glass which makes it nice to see what you are cooking. These pots and pans are oven safe up to 400 degrees.
All three of these companies cookware sets are highly recommended healthy non toxic sets. I use the Kitchen Aid Gourmet Essentials cookware in my kitchen. It is the best value out of the three.

Grilled Fish Recipes - Tequila Lime Tacos
Today is a special day because I am going to talk food which is dear to my heart. And that is grilled fish recipes for Mexican food. In other words, let's do fish tacos. There is that southern Calif. influence coming out. Now I could eat fish tacos everyday because one, not only do I love them, but, two, if you do them right they are very healthy for you. Here is just one example: Sit down and eat bbq tri-tip and you, well, maybe not you, but I am eating half of it at one sitting. Red meat. That is not all that healthy for you in excess. Notice I said excess, I don't want anyonne saying that I am telling everyone that red meat is unhealthy. No, that would be bad for the bbq business.
What I am saying is that we need to be wise in our choices. And you cannot get much wiser than grilled fish recipes like fish tacos. Shoot, you could eat six of them and still not come up to a half a pound of meat. And depending upon the selection of fish which you choose, this could turn out very healthy indeed. Thus, tequila lime fish tacos. Don't worry, the alcohol burns off.
Ingredients:
* 4 tilapia fillets (about 1 pound)
* 4 tablespoons oil
* 2 tablespoons lime juice
* zest of 2 limes
* 1 tablespoon fresh basil, minced
* 2 teaspoons tequila
* salt and pepper to taste
Directions:
Now even though I did not mention it, with tacos and anytime I do grilled fish recipes on the grill I always grill up some onion rings, or sliced onions and put them in my tacos. Now you can combine all ingredients except for the tilapia fillets in a resealable plastic bag. Turn to mix and add tilapia fillets. Seal and refrigerator for 30 minutes. Preheat grill. Pour marinade into a saucepan. Bring marinade to a low boil and remove from heat. Grill tilapia fillets for about 3 minutes per side over a high heat. When fish turns opaque remove from grill and slice them up into thin strips.
Then take these and place them in some grilled corn tortillas, add some of those grilled onions, thinly sliced cabbage and maybe top of with either (or both) a little of that marinade and some hot sauce. Or you can take some sour cream and mix it with some of the marinade and hot sauce and then just top it off with that.
Now that is some healthy grilled fish recipes. Like I said you can really eat a lot of those and it won't be that bad for you.....at least in my eyes. And then for more of those fish taco recipes you can always find some in our free newsletter.
